Flat Bottom Pouch
Rigid three-dimensional shape × high capacity × the best choice for brand presentation

The flat bottom pouch, also known as a box pouch or eight-side seal bag, has a rectangular panel at the bottom that unfolds into a flat base. Compared with a standard stand-up pouch, it remains square and upright even when filled, combining the stability of a box with the flexibility of soft packaging.
Main Structure and Sealing Method
- It usually consists of five pieces: front and back panels, two gussets, and a separate bottom panel. During production, four vertical edges and the bottom are sealed—hence the term “eight-side seal.” After sealing, the pouch has five flat faces with no back seam. The top remains open for filling and is later heat sealed, often with an optional zipper. Because of the complex structure, specialized machines and a K-fold bottom are used to create the square base.
Features and Advantages
- Flat bottom pouches combine high stability with large capacity. They hold over 30% more product than a similar-volume stand-up pouch and have a wider opening for filling. Their boxy shape allows neat shelf display and enhances brand image. With five printable panels and no back seam, designs can cover the entire surface for maximum impact.
Common Applications
- Commonly used for mid- to high-value or large-volume products such as specialty coffee beans, tea, premium pet food, cereals, protein powder, and nuts. Its high-barrier structure also suits dry powders, seasonings, and goods requiring a longer shelf life. Some household products like laundry powder or pods are also adopting this pouch for better display.
Thomson Value-Added Services
- We offer precise flat-bottom pouch production with controlled dimensions and strong seals. Optional high-barrier materials—such as aluminum foil, metallized film, or EVOH co-extrusions—extend shelf life. We can add clear windows or full matte finishes, print vivid artwork on all five panels, and integrate accessories like zippers, one-way valves, or handle holes for greater convenience.
